The Bruxelles Trip and More...

OK, so last post I said I would add the photos from when I went to Bruxelles with my friend, Sarah, from Arkansas. There aren't that many, so in this post I will also include some of the things I have gotten to do in the last week or two. But first, here are the photos:

Ok, this photo deserves a super long caption. The guy on the left was sitting across from me on the train at like 6 in the morning, and his luggage was in the seat next to him. The seat next to me was empty, as well as like 100 other seats. The guy on the right stumbled in, (with vomit all over his legs and shoes, and reeking of alcohol) and stood next to the seat and stared at the guy on the left as if to say, "Well, aren't you gonna move your shit?" So he sat down, and passed out and was practically lying on the guy on the left. When the conductor came by to check tickets, he asked the guy where he was going. "I'm going to Huy", the guy said. "But this train doesn't go to Huy, it goes to Bruxelles..." The guy responded "well I'm going to Huy." This went on for about a minute before the conductor got pissed off and said something I didn't really understand. Then the guy said "no, but I'm so tired..." When I got off at my stop to head back towards the airport to pick up my friend, he was stumbling around asking people where the bus stop for the center of Huy was... Wished I could've helped but I had no time. Poor guy.
Another picture from the coolest bar in the world.

 Inside the Cathedral again.

Sarah taking a picture of the giant horse's ass.

 The Royal Palace.
The entrance to the Royal Park.
The gates to the Royal Palace.
Some random giant clock on the face of a building. Very pretty.
The same clock, but you can see the smaller details, like the little statues inside the hollows.
Me, after a very long and tiring day of seeing and doing lots of things.

Ok, So things from the last week or two... Last weekend was the Soiree Kitch, where you had to wear completely random mis-matched clothing in order to gain entry to the party. It was a lot of fun and everyone was dressed really crazy-like. Then, the next day, I went with my host family to the Baptism of a child of a friend of the family. Then afterwards we went over to their house and had a small little gathering to celebrate. We also watched the last 20 minutes of the soccer match between Standard Liège and Aanderlecht, which are the favorite teams of my host brother, and dad, respectively. I like Standard more, so I was happy when they won, 2-1. I tried not to rub it in my host dad's face too much. ;) But I told him that if he needed a minute to cry, I would look away. Then, later during the week, I woke up at like 5:20 to go into the woods with my host mom and a friend of the family named Luk. The one they call Luky, because it sounds sorta like "lucky." Anyways, we went into the woods early in the morning because it is mating season for the deers, and they have a really strange mating call. You can look it up on the internet, if you want to hear one, I've never heard anything quite like it in real life before. Although, there is a video game called Bioshock, that has a character named "Big Daddy". And I am quite convinced that the sound the Big Daddies make comes from a deer call.

Anyways, that same day I went to Liège with some friends to have drinks and just walk around the city and have fun. Diego introduced me to some of his friends who are on exchange with AFS and FYE, which are other exchange organizations. They were really cool, and we had a lot of fun! Then, this last friday night, all the exchange students from our school and a few others that aren't went to Liège again for "la foire", or the fair. We had a blast! And on the way home, we asked some lady if she know what time the bus for our city came. She asked us where we were from, because she had spent two months in England, and could tell that some of us had "English" accents. So then, when we were talking to her, another lady came over and was like "did you guys say you're exchange students? So was I!" As it turns out, the two ladies knew each other, but weren't there together. They were a year apart at the same school, our school in Herve, and one of them was the older sister of a girl in Katrina's (the girl who was born in China but lives in Canada) class. The other girl went on exchange in China, in the same city where Katrina was born. And it turns out that she is good friends with one of the host sisters of Ambar and Katrina. So my third host sister. It is a really small world, and that was so crazy to run into them like that!

Then, the next morning, I woke up early again to go to visit a city called Namur, with Rotary. We went and saw the Parliament, and went on a boat ride on the river Meuse. I didn't take a whole lot of photos though, because I forgot my camera was in my backpack. And by the time I realized I had it, it was really rainy and gross. But there are lots of pictures on Facebook, and there will be even more soon, I hope. Then, that night when I got home, Ambar, Nelson, and I went to a Medieval themed dinner with our host Rotary club. Everyone was dressed up in Middle Aged clothing, and there were these really cool decorations and a sword-fighting dual, and a chorus that sang in the style of the Middle Ages, and so much more cool stuff! It was so incredible! And so much fun! And I think my host Rotary club would be a bit shocked, but as a going away gift, the club gave us these little authentic looking clay shot glasses that had the Rotary International logo on them. But again, those are the differences in culture... What're ya gonna do?

But We didn't get home until about 1:45 and I was exhausted. I slept until like 2 this afternoon. My host family could tell I needed the sleep, and fortunately, nothing happened today. Everyone was either working, or with their boyfriend/girlfriend. So I got a nice relaxing day of rest and quiet. Which was much needed. And tonight, my real dad gets home from the hospital, and I will get to Skype him! I am so excited! I kinda want to see the rest of the family too, but Im not sure if I can stay up late enough... Anyway, that is enough for one post, I think. Hope everyone is enjoying reading about all my adventures. But there's no way it is as exciting as actually doing all of the things! I still can't believe I am here and doing it all! Thanks so much Rotary! Love you! <3
