Carnaval, Vacation in Switzerland, and Les Fêtes!

Ok, so I decided it is about time I made another post. I know it has been a long long time, but let me be. I have been busy doing other stuff. But It is time that I added another post so you all can see what I've been up to!

Ok, so the first weekend of Carnaval vacation, I went to two different parties and went to the Carnaval. Very tiring weekend. So friday night, my belgian friends invited me to be on their team for the Marche du Peket, in a nearby village called Bollande. Basically, the marche was a march... Haha difficult, right? But it was more than that. Throughout the march, there were stands, or stages where you had to answer some sort of trivia question. Once your team answered the question correctly, you could continue the march. It was freezing cold, and the march was between 3 and 4 kilometers, I think. So about 2, 2 and a half miles. After the march, the teams all met up back at the starting point, and met in this big room for a dance party. Lots of fun!

The Saturday after that, I went to the Soirée Mexicaine. It was fun, but not my best soirée ever. There just weren't enough people their that I knew. And everyone was more around 16. Not quite the same atmosphere. But it was fun. The next morning, I woke up and went to the Carnaval with my host parents. We went to a city called Malmedy, near the German border. There were so many crazy things to see! Their were people dressed in these black and white costumes who would throw oranges into the crowd as the floats went by. There were these people with "stilted" arms that would steal your hats, and put them on someone else's head. There were people painted all black, that wore these sort of wooden scaled dresses. They would hit you with a sock filled with sand if you walked too close to them. There were also these guys they called the Long Noses, or Les Longs Nez that all wore masks with super long noses, and they dressed a bit like Waldo, from "Where's Waldo?". They were my favorite because they would walk around in packs looking for their "target". Once they found him, they would chase him everywhere he went. They would follow in his footsteps and do everything he did. So, almost everywhere you looked, you could see people doing crazy things and then a group of crazy-looking people doing the same crazy things. Like if you crawled through the legs of someone, all 5 or 6 of them would have to crawl through the same person's legs. Lots of funny stuff happened. It was quite enjoyable.

Then, the next week, my family and I went on vacation in Switzerland! We were in this small town called Cormoret, about a 45 minute drive away from a view of the Swiss Alps. Unfortunatley, I didn't see them, because the day we went, the fog was too thick, and you couldn't see much of anything at such a distance. But Switzerland was really fun. We went skiing 3 days and we went sledding several times as well. We had a blast and I got to see a ton of cool stuff. I also tasted the best cheese I've ever had in my life. I know I said that about France, but Switzerland has the cheese category on lock-down. Best wine still goes to France, though. And I think I will post the pictures from the vacation in Switzerland either in this post or the next. Also, last night I went to a friends birthday party. Best birthday party I've ever been to! They know how to do it in Belgium! ;) Pictures will definitely be on FB! OK, I will put the pictures from Switzerland here in this post.

  1. Love the park bench. Reminds me of Lilly Tomlin. Yes, I'm dating myself. Look her up on YouTube and put "Laugh In Chair" in your search.
